Background:
I wanted to write a love song that expressed how love is known, no matter what the circumstances. I have always been inspired by Gayle and Mac Shann’s love story and had previously written a love song with them in mind, so their story certainly influenced me at a deep level. (Gayle suffered horrific injuries in a farm accident, and it was sheer beauty to see the love and commitment between her and her husband as they got on with their lives.)
However, as I wrote this, my daughter and her fiancée’s love for each other also inspired me. This was the love song I could dedicate to them on their wedding day.
Lyrics:
I try to paint a picture of love
With words and a melody
It’s not just through my eyes
I see how much you mean to me
Within my heart there’s a knowing
There’s a pounding with every beat
You give me love like a summer lake
So warm and so deep
While the sun shines so bright
And the clouds bring on the rain
The sky changes from day to day
Still your love eases my pain
Doesn’t matter what the weather brings
Your heart is safe with me
Cos you and me, my darling
We were meant to be
Chorus:
If I lost the way to see the world
Lost the freedom to dance and speak
If I couldn’t hear the songs
You sing to me so sweet
I’d still know your love
Darling, so tenderly
I’d see it through
See it through my heart
See it through my heart
No one would ever know
No one could understand
Just how deep is the love
As this woman loves this man
So dance with me my darling
Whisper words into my ear
Sing me that love song
That I love to hear
Tell me that forever
We will never part
And that you’ll always be my light
When I’m lost in the dark
So dance with me my darling
Whisper words into my ear
Sing me that love song
That I love to hear
Chorus
I’d see it through
See it through my heart
See it through my heart
